Total renovation – Detached House, Mansfield Street, Rozelle
4 bedrooms | Library | 2.5 bathrooms
This was a fabulous example of a Rozelle house but it had fallen into disrepair. We bought the house and sub-divided, building a new house in what had been the garden of the existing property.
We retained — but enhanced — the character of the facade and retained as much as possible of the original interior but sadly that wasn’t a lot.
Blonde wood and high ceilings give the house a light and airy feel. And we added modern touches like Cat 5 cabling and cable television points throughout.
The spacious downstairs is divided into a library with fireplace that looks onto the street; and a larger living area separated from a cook’s kitchen complete with Gaggenau appliances.
There are three bedrooms upstairs, one of which leads to a loft conversion upstairs, which would make a perfect play area or retreat.
Challenges with the build
Some of the particular challenges with this renovation included:
- Restoring the original sandstone and jointing, bringing it back to its original glory
- Matching levels between the old timbers and the new
- Fitting a loft into the existing attic space
